Chapter Seven
Thirsty after their bout of sex, Talyn stood in his kitchen, drinking from the milk container at two in the morning. Heâd left his sleeping bonded mate upstairs, snoring away.
He switched his train of thought and remembered Olinâs threat. Talyn was half tempted to pay the guy a visit. The only thing that stopped him was Gabriel. But if the little shit made another threat, nothing would stand in Talynâs way.
A noise in the backyard made Talyn lower the milk container. He stood stock-still as he listened. He set the container aside and reached above the fridge, removing his Glock from the cookie container.
Sure, he could shift into his leopard form, but if there were more than two guys out there, heâd rather have firepower. Wearing nothing but a pair of boxer briefs, Talyn slipped to the back door and glanced out the window. The backyard was bathed in darkness. His sight was exceptional, and the darkness didnât hinder him, but he saw nothing out of the ordinary.
Someone knocked into a trashcan. Talyn eased the door open and stepped onto the concrete patio. He kept his back to the house as he clutched his gun. Someone was coming up his driveway. With Gabriel and his brother in the house, Talyn wasnât taking any chances. Heâd shoot the fucking shit out of whoever it was and ask questions later.
If they meant to do harm, they were noisy about it. They werenât very good at sneaking up on someone. Maybe he should get a guard dog. A Rottweiler or a Doberman.
Talyn rounded the corner, gun aimed at the intruderâs chest.
âJeez,â Coop shouted as he threw his hands up. âDonât fucking shoot me.â Karidon wasnât too far behind. They both looked like hell. One of Coopâs eyes was swollen, and Karidonâs lip was cracked and caked with dried blood. They looked as though theyâd been in some sort of brawl.
âWhat the fuck happened to you guys?â Talyn lowered his gun.
âHad to fight past Ethan and four of his armed men,â Coop said. âWasnât a cakewalk.â
Talyn was surprised theyâd made it out alive. They were two tough sons of bitches, but they were no match for an alpha, let alone four men with guns. âThey caught you in their territory?â
âDonât remind me,â Coop complained as he handed a duffel bag off to Talyn. âMade me drop my damn cookies. That pissed me off.â
Talyn wasnât going to ask. Sometimes it was better not to when it came to Coop. He took the bag and tossed it over his shoulder. After hearing the conversation between Gabriel and his aunt, Talyn knew this was Gabrielâs stuff.
âI need a damn drink.â Karidon wiped at his mouth and then winced before he walked into the house.
âDid you find out anything?â Talyn asked.
âYeah, that Ethan packs a mean punch.â Coop scowled. âAlso that his men have shitty aim. Thank the gods for that. Nearly had one ass cheek blown off.â Coop patted his butt. âItâs too nice to damage.â
